Externalities is a documentary survey of how private industry externalizes costs onto public water and sanitation systems, and the various forms of community organizing deployed by these communities to access safe, affordable water and sanitation. The documentary is produced in partnership with the National Coalition for Legislation on Affordable Water, with an advisory board of coalition members. Communities visited include Martin County, KY; Lowndes County, AL; Des Moines, IA; Allensworth, CA; Navajo Nation; Philadelphia, PA and Detroit, MI.

For this project, I acted as a producer, conducting research and outreach to local host organizations, identifying the story related to the project’s theme in each area. I then travelled to each location and filmed with the host organization, local community, and governmental institutions. The film is currently in post-production, and is edited by Adrian Randall. The project will be released in April 2019. The featured video is a segment on Martin County, KY.
